At Work in the Fields of Creativity
Dear Friends,
This week is a great one for Metapsychosis readers with an interest in the mechanics of creation. Our columnist Chase Griffin interviews Joshua Bohnsack, the founder of indie publishing house Long Day Press. From the daily struggles of running a press out of your home, to the surprising rewards of teaching and the responsibilities of the author, this interview is a captivating glimpse into a creative life.
Then Michael Eisenberg gives us an excellent exploration of acousmatic music, a genre that deliberately conceals the sources of the sounds it uses, particularly through electronic transformations. Taking us through the work of composer Denis Dufour, this review is both personal and informative, placing acousmatic music within the context of a body of intellectual exploration of the “imaginal” that extends beyond Western thought to include 12th-century Islamic mysticism. As Eisenberg puts it, “the Acousmatic sound artist is a causal agent, magician and alchemist.”
Our editor Lauren Rhiannon Lockhart has been hard at work this summer reading work from our most recent call for submissions on Creature Consciousness. Stay tuned over the coming weeks and months as we begin to publish some of the strange and wonderful pieces we received. In the meantime don’t forget to keep the creative conversation going with the new and improved comment function on all our articles. We love to hear from you!
