This is Acousmatic music as lived cinema: a slow-burn interior film where sound constructs space, motion, and meaning. Lost and Profound moves from immersion to emergence, tracing a path through altered perception and imaginal terrain. The screen is dark; the ears see everything.

An imaginal descent and a psychic transmission: Baiocchi’s Theta unravels the secret negotiations between life and entropy, while Mason’s tribute to Schaeffer reconnects acousmatic listening to its primal roots. Dear Metapsychonauts,

Sound as change. Whether it’s a Beethoven symphony or a Coltrane solo that blows the doors off their frames, there is always a story to tell. The sound objects that make up the greater part of the whole are always team players. The notes that make up a melody. The melodies that comprise a symphony—the whole will always comprise the initial memory as we carry the piece up and out into our present.

So it goes with Acousmatic music. The tiniest sound objects, working in concert akin to the rowers of a Viking longship will also benefit the greater whole, only this time… there may not be a melody but rather a mood that’s created and stored in our memory banks.

This type of music is not beholden to the do-re-mi’s of Western music theory—the fact is, it’s not beholden to anything but the listeners own subjective experience. And that experience will ALWAYS be under you, the listeners direction. You choose the plot, you choose the story and, you choose the ending. Imagination will be the writer and director of this cinema for the ears and it will always be waiting for those two words before it begins its job—ROLL EM!

On November 1st, 2025 at 1pm MDT, Acousmatic Crossings will provide the possible film stock for this movie with our third live listening session via Zoom. This event will feature works by artists previously published in the series—brought into shared space for both diffusion and discussion. For this event, composers Amanda Stuart and Ali Balighi will be our guests as we feature their work.

Register for the live event below.

Both artists will be there to present and talk about their work and, as always you will have the opportunity to ask questions, or simply share your personal journey this music can take you on.

Join us for this Sonic Journey

This live sound movie, brought to you by the kindness of your imaginal faculties and an explorer’s mindset is coming to a viewing room near you. Grab your popcorn, a king size box of Snowcaps and relax in your easiest of chairs—an afternoon at the cinema awaits. Sign up now, lest you risk missing this world premiere.

The event will be open to everyone and requires only an email address to register.

Acousmatic Crossings has a constellation of forthcoming works to share, each with the potential to lead listeners on deeply personal sojourns. These live events aim to raise awareness, deepen appreciation, and open new portals to listening as an act of imaginative awakening.

To see where the Acousmatic Crossings series has been, please visit our landing page that includes the archive of everything we have published so far. There is much more on the horizon.

… and before I go, I’d like to just say that none of this would be happening if it wasn’t for the Metapsychosis Journal. Their willingness to take a risk on such a large project speaks volumes to their forward seeking mindset. I personally would like to urge you to become a patron. Your contribution of just $7 a month (or $75 for a year) will go a long way towards keeping this bastion of Consciousness, Literature and Art a vibrant, living thing. Now more than ever, the essential need for such enclaves within a continuously disappearing internet of vital ideas is nothing less than the preservation of the imaginal itself against the flattening of reality. Please take a moment to visit the patron sign up page—it will take a second to sign up, but have infinitesimally vast consequences for sustaining this good work!

See you in the sonic aether.

Michael Eisenberg

P.S. For the most immersive experience, we highly recommend using headphones or earbuds for this event. The subtle spatial movements and sonic textures are best appreciated in close quarters, where the inner ear becomes the concert hall.

A non-space of entropic delights—Deliverance offers a listening experience shaped by imagination, sensation, and the apophatic limits of language. It is at once minimal and infinite, a sonic passage that belongs to no one and to each listener alone.

A mind isn’t a number, a test score, or a benchmark. It’s a shifting landscape of strengths, gaps, growth, and context. In a world of neurodiversity and artificial intelligence, we must let go of simple rankings—and embrace a more honest picture of what it means to think.

We’ve long tried to measure intelligence using a single number, from IQ scores to AI benchmarks. This article explains why that approach fails, and why a multidimensional view is essential for understanding both humans and machines.

Paul Beaudoin’s ein kleines klangportrait is a tightly woven sonic miniature, where the familiar sounds of piano and percussion are extended and entangled through tape to form a restless “hyper-instrument.” Faruk Mehić’s ePrelude op. 18 no. 3 offers a contrasting sense of space and pace. Flowing with a restrained elegance, the piece beckons close listening through finely shaped dynamics and spectral detail.

This Acousmatic Crossings installment brings together plastov’s Omega Amoeba and Jiajing Zhao’s Back to the Ocean—two pieces shaped by paradox. Each begins in quiet and seeming inertia yet reveals immersive sound worlds teeming with subtle morphologies. What first appears static becomes animate; what feels empty begins to overflow. The minimal becomes maximal—if you’re willing to stay with it. Headphones required. So is surrender.

A sonic mass grave becomes a vessel of ascent. This work of mourning, built from damaged vinyl and vanished futures, drifts into the imaginal — where broken grooves become memory prompts, and lost time coils beneath our feet like a spiral staircase to the Eighth Climate.
