Eye O Yew
Existence is without sight or sound,
Without thought or motion,
No seeking, no yearning,
Over a timeless lifespan.
Its end is equivalent to its beginning.
In a painting of an epoch occurring all at once
Depicting only truth
And uninhibited is-ness,
Cyclic rounds of nourishing light
And darkness tug from the silent moon.
There under the ancestral starlight,
I feel the closeness of the soil
And the grip of rock.
Amid the wash of rain and the settlement of snow
I grow through a mosaic of seasons.
With leaves of green and berries of red,
And ropes of wood and bark,
I shed my girth
To the ground,
To fungal regeneration,
To brethren plants,
To cousins insectoid,
To songs of thrush,
To the sly fox here and gone, gone and here,
And to the familial animals with their buzzing and their brains.
Humans.
Busy humans.
Humans with tools.
Humans ceaselessly doing.
Humans endlessly seeking.
Humans hastily striving.
Humans drunk on power.
Then come the Archdruid and the Priestess
And the poet and the bard.
My intoxicating mists infuse the land with magic.
Over my roots, the warrior spills his blood.
Under my boughs, the lovers cry in ecstasy.
Within the mystic’s exalted eye,
Gods celebrate around me,
their World Tree.
I meld with the shaman’s dreams,
Revealing the medicine of my leaves.
To the Tree of Life,
To the Life Principle,
To the humans
And their burning ailment of separation,
I offer my salve,
Withholding nothing.
Without withholding.
Nothing.
Across time,
Clearing obstacles
And opening new visions,
The prophet of peace speaks
Amid both reverence and ridicule.
Igniting the passions
Of the human heart,
His words tangle into swirls
Of creation and destruction.
Great edifices of pomp
Heave up across the land.
Wars blight the sky.
Humans with distractions.
Humans with forgetting.
Humans in peril.
Suffering.
Sadness.
Death.
Birth.
Elation.
Enlightenment.
Effortlessness of sight.
Emboldenment of action.
The forging of fires.
The rebuilding of cities.
The creation of empires
And the science of ages.
My time draws near.
Physics and mathematics
Speed up mind.
There is freedom without movement.
Paradox dissolves.
Truth admits the false.
Creativity eats itself.
Love abandons fear.
Fulfillment relinquishes hope.
Contemplation resolves.
All becomes equal
To One
Divided by Zero.
