From Viking Past to Apocalyptic Future
Dear Metapsychonauts,
It’s that time again, where we open our neural pores to receive the winds of the cosmos, or at the very least, those emanating from Cosmos Co-op. Last week, we published the second and final installment of “The Last Litany of Lunev,” a story by James Curcio about a post-apocalyptic fiction attributed to Borges, along with “Europa,” a series of three poems that reflect upon our relationship to the cosmos, by Ria Bulthuis. In the coming week the article “Three Women from Viking Sagas Who chose Their Own Path” will appear, by our intrepid editor Mary Thaler, whose own viking-like saga, Ulfhildr, was published late last year by Untimely Books. Mary opens the lid upon several stories of warrior women that might have served as inspiration for her own work.
A reminder also that Lauren Lockhart has put out a call for submissions for stories or poems about Creature Consciousness. With an August 31st deadline, there is still time to plan and submit to this enterprising and topical endeavour.
There are several upcoming opportunities to learn more about Cosmos Co-op, the cooperative organization behind Metapsychosis, Untimely Books, and other initiatives currently in development. Here are two meetings planned in early August which are open to both newcomers and longtime fellow travellers:
Cosmos Local Meet-Up (Colorado) – Monday, August 5 at 7 pm MDT
Cosmos Community Meet-Up – Thursday, August 8 at 12 pm MDT
So, the week invites us to navigate the winds of time between the distant era of the Vikings and several futures, some more sinister than others. Also, if you feel motivated to participate in the diverse activities underway within the coop or would like to support these endeavours, there are several ways to do this.
Thanks to all our talented writers, editors and the many others who contribute in small and large ways to these efforts. And thank you for your focused attention to our gleanings.
