Harnessing Energies New and Old
Dear Cosmo-nauts,
As spring takes hold in the northern hemisphere (and fall in the southern), we look for ways to harness the new energies emerging while conserving the best of the older patterns that have become habits. While we tend to feel these changes as a kind of wave of renewal, they also often pose significant challenges.
This work of balancing older ways of functioning and newer developments is, of course, at the heart of the official launch of the Cosmos Co-op and publication of its constitution, since the organization already encompasses a community that has been active for ten years, while new opportunities are now emerging.
Metapsychosis likewise is at a crossroads, with its recent launch of the Acousmatic series of music segments as well as the ongoing publication of authors both old and new to the platform. One piece we failed to mention in last week’s newsletter was Special Exhibition, a prose poem by Brian Westerlind with “a craft fueled of longing” that will get under your skin and introduce you to “throat-closings of worlds”. Brian is a writer new to Metapsychosis we would like to see more of in these pages.
This week we have Tom Larson‘s “Zones of Competing Interest” , an exploration of the soundtrack of the recent film “The Zone of Interest” by writer/director Jonathan Glazer, an award-winning film about the Holocaust. Tom Larson is a returning author whose careful prose probes deeply into places we do not expect to discover. This week we also have a charming short story called “Museum” by Liam Carnahan which explores how we access memory across different stages of a life.
If you’re interested in joining the Cosmos Co-op and participating in any one of its numerous activities, consider becoming a member. Also, a reminder that one of our Untimely Books’ authors, Mary Thaler, will be facilitating a Writers’ Circle twice a month, starting on April 14th, for writers to present their current projects and get feedback from other writers in the group. There are still one or two spots left in this group, so if you’re interested sign up now!
Ruminating still,
