Howling at the Invisible Moon
This week in Metapsychosis: we continue featuring alumni from editor Brian George’s literary/art salons, which you can read about in the introduction to last week’s “Salon Poems.”
First, James Curcio is back with a probing essay reflecting on the ever-growing disconnect between words and actions in our hyper-social-mediated age: “Thoughts, Prayers, and Other Useless Things: What Good is the Moral High Ground, Anyway?” It’s kind of like that Rumi poem you’ve probably heard, “There is a field beyond ideas of wrong and right…” but drawing on Nietzsche instead, with a contemporary inflection. Guaranteed to make you think.
But then, Stephanie Wellen Levine blows up the discourse with her poem, “Notes from a Stark Raving Lunatic,” which reminded me of one of my favorite short stories when I was growing up, “Diary of a Madman,” by Nikolai Gogol. Fortunately, Stephanie’s case is not so dire (that I’m aware), but it speaks from that special kind of lunacy we all might feel beneath the surface of our social masks.
What good is socially sanctioned sanity, anyway, in an insane world? I am always looking for that glint of madness, that wild joyful streak, in some friend or stranger’s eyes… which lets me know I have companions in the chaos, and makes it all a little more bearable and fun.
Join our forum and tell us what you think/feel about any of our articles. Ours is NOT the typical corporate social media site, BUT it is just as easy to sign up and sign in; you can even use your existing social login. If you’re a little crazy too, this is the place for you.
And as always, we appreciate your financial support to help pay our hosting bills, as we also build up towards a print edition and the ability to pay our writers and artists.
A few final notes: We are now accepting submissions for the fall editions of the journal, so if you have some crazy good writing, music, film, or artwork you’ve been meaning to share, please send it in!
As well, if you’re interested in the upcoming Psychedelic Incubator retreat, you’re welcome to attend a free Info Session this coming Thursday, 6/6. Sign up here.
Lastly, if you will happen to be in Colorado on June 15, please consider joining us for a live, in-person event with author Lisa Maroski, who’s new book, Embracing Paradox, Evolving Language: Expressing the Unity and Complexity of Integral Consciousness, we just published through Untimely Books.
This FREE event is being called “How Can We Emerge from Polarization? A Language Workshop for Future Humans,” and will take place at Longmont Public Media, an awesome non-profit media maker space in town. Come participate and say hi!
That’s all for this week, my mostly unknown friends. Don’t be strangers, or do… What do I care? (Unless I do.)
Insanely yours,
Marco V Morelli
