Infinite Art Forms, One Community
Dear Readers,
Once again this week, Metapsychosis takes you on a journey through the panoply of forms of artistic expression. We recently launched our series on Acousmatic music with an essay by curator Michael Eisenberg, and work by pioneering composer Beatriz Ferreyra. This week, we bring acousmatic music squarely into the twenty-first century with Paul Dolden’s piece “Beyond the Walls of Jericho”. The composer’s maximalist approach to sound unleashes a force that really seems capable of collapsing stone walls and bringing down empire.
In a quieter vein, our columnist Chase Griffin’s interview with Dominic Loise titled “Raw Clay for Self-Care” tackles the importance of leaving artistic practices that no longer serve us and even become harmful—specifically, Loise’s decision to leave the Chicago improv comedy scene.
The Cosmos Co-op crossed a new threshold in March, releasing its constitution with a new model for governance and membership. If you’re interested in joining this growing community, including a dynamic forum where creative minds meet and new ideas are born, consider becoming a member.
Finally, as a reminder to any artists out there whose medium is words—I will be facilitating a Writers’ Circle twice a month, starting on 14 April, for writers to discuss their current projects and get feedback from their peers. There are still three spots left in this group, so if you’re interested sign up now!
Warm regards,
Mary Thaler
