Unfolding Small Universes
Dear Readers,
The poet William Blake famously urged us to see a World in a Grain of Sand / And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, and this week at Metapsychosis we have two pieces that show that there is nothing so small that, by examining it, we cannot unfold an entire universe.
Our series on Creature Consciousness continues this week in the realm of visual art, featuring work from Deniz Ozan-George’s new exhibition at the Galatea Fine Art Gallery in Boston. Ozan-George’s abstract paintings were previously featured on Metapsychosis in 2021, together with an interview in which she described her fascinating process. With her exhibition “Wax and Wane… Ebb and Flow” she continues to explore new techniques and subject matter, keeping its rich aspects of texture and pattern, while making a decided swerve toward the figurative. Taking Earth’s moon as her theme, she observes and brings to life all the minutiae in the lives of small meadow creatures, tide pools, and other ocean life.
Next, “A Few Strands of Jöra’s Yarn” is more than a single piece of writing. It is a world with its own rules, its own languages and mythologies, summoned into existence by the creativity of Shai Newman, a Steel Broker of the Empty Hearth Tradition. Not sure what that means? This week, Metapsychosis is publishing a selection of texts that invites readers to explore this endlessly inventive universe.
With so much to see in our marvellous world, and so much to read, we thank all of our devoted readers and writers who take a chance on us week after week. If you enjoy the universes that you’ve discovered through Metapsychosis, consider becoming a patron to support us
Until next week,
Mary Thaler
Associate Editor, Metapsychosis journal
